February 1, 1960: The four students make their first stand as they sit at the all-whites counter at Woolworth's.

February 2, 1960: The four return, this time with 16 others from North Carolina A&T.

February 3, 1960: Fifty students come to Woolworth's, as well as some white students from Greensboro College.

February 5, 1960: So many students were now participating that some students sat in at S.H. Kress, a block down the road.  They too were denied service.

February 6, 1960: Several hundred students flock to Woolworth's, where the police eventually clear them out.

February 10, 1960: Students in Rock Hill and Orangeburg, South Carolina join in the protests.

February 12, 1960: Forty-three students are arrested for trespassing in Raleigh, N.C.

February 13, 1960: Forty students sit-in Woolworth's in Nashville, Tennessee during a snowstorm.

March 14, 1960: Seven hundred protesters marched to the Woolworth's in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  Over 500 were arrested.

February 1, 1961: Over 50,000 people have participated in events since the first sit-ins; 3,600 were estimated to have been arrested.
